As a teenager in the 1980s I moved from the family farm in rural Victoria to the big city of Melbourne. My Nan wrote to me regularly after I left. I kept her letters.

Over 30 years later I reread the letters from Nan. The stories of her everyday life combined with the undercurrent of concern and affection for me that was a constant thread in her writings made me cry. They are difficult for me to read.
